Arteixo Tourism Office by Alejandro García Rodríguez

ARTEIXO – An abandoned bus station has been converted into a tourism office in Arteixo, a village in north-western Spain.

Armed with a small budget, architect Alejandro García Rodríguez planned to create a visible, landmark-style structure that would be easily spotted. His solution was found in a skin-like façade added on top of the existing structure. The updated glossy metal system envelopes the building, shielding it from direct sunlight while adding the necessary ‘flashy’ eye-catching element.

The result is a great example of resourcefulness and reuse. Instead of levelling the existing shelter, García Rodríguez left it largely intact – decreasing the creation of waste – and creatively covered it with perforated metal panels.
